John Robertson is a comedian, writer and MC. A diverse kind of guy, he started comedy in 2002 and he now tours the world hosting festivals and appearing in clubs and theatres. He was recently named as one of ZOO Magazine’s Top Ten Young Aussie Comics.
John toured to the Edinburgh Fringe in 2009 and was rewarded with a four- star review. His new one- man show, A Nifty History of Evil played to packed houses at the 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Later this year, the show will tour to the Wild West Comedy Festival, before hitting the Edinburgh Fringe for 44 shows.
A versatile speaker, puppeteer and ukulele player, John is at home on any stage, in any setting. He is the resident MC for the Supanova Pop Culture Expo and the Under The Blue Moon Goth Festival. He has performed stand- up in Australia’s best venues, at corporate events and everywhere in between – and has also created an audience unique to him.
John enjoys a nationwide following amongst anime and science fiction fans aged 25 and under thanks to his touring appearances and YouTube hit single, “The Cosplay Song”. His Australian Idol audition, also on YouTube, is the stuff of modern legend.
A prolific writer, John has scripted four solo comedies in the last four years, as well as writing stand- up, radio spots, short stories and television scripts. His show credits include Killing Hun in the Sun (nominated Best New Play, Equity Guild Awards 2005) Love of a Pitiful Instrument, Don’t Swallow: A Handy Guide to Keeping Your Above Water (In An Ocean Filled with Sh*t) – nominated Biggest Box Office Blue Room Theatre Awards, 2010 - and A Nifty History of Evil. “Head and shoulders (and knees and elbows) above the other acts I’ve seen recently. He’s got a really tight set, consistently very sharp and funny, and great stage presence.
