A new comedy Festival for Perth!

We are pretty excited about this at Bootleg – and have to admit a little bias as one of our directors (Jo Marsh – former Program Director of Wild West Comedy Festival) is the director of this new international comedy sensation in your very own backyard… Wild West Comedy Festival may also be holding some events (Over the Fence Film Festival etc), but these are yet to be announced as the festival has now moved to August.

You can read about the new venture in an articles from The West here and from Chortle here.

Perth International Comedy Festival (PICF) is a whole brand spanking new festival for Perth, and tickets are on sale now!

With over 40 events and 140 performances in 19 days, the Perth International Comedy Festival will launch into Perth in May 2012. The 19 days of hilarity will begin with the Opening Night Gala on May 2nd. Included in the first announcement is Tripod with their new show Men of Substance, Fiona O’Loughlin, Greg Fleet, Dave Callan and, the first of many International acts, Henry Rollins (USA) with his show The Long March. Perth International Comedy Festival will raise the bar for comedy in Perth. The first announcement also includes shows by Joel Creasey, Werzel and Robertson, John Conway and the musical Tropical Parodies. With only a quarter of the entire program on sale now, this is just the beginning.

‘We’re delighted to have so many headliners to announce this early,’ says Festival Director Jo Marsh, ‘it’s fantastic that the Festival can offer so many high-profile comedians in Perth simultaneously.’

With all the venues just a five-minute walk from each other, audiences will be able to see up to three different shows at three different venues each night. The iconic Astor Theatre will be the main hub of the Festival.

The Perth International Comedy Festival will run from May 2nd-20th, 2012 and will provide 19 days of fun and hilarity with laughs, chuckles and guffaws galore.

Exciting times at Bootleg High…

Hello comedy fans,

You may have noticed a few changes around the Bootleg website of late. Odds are you’ll be noticing a lot more changing around Bootleg over the coming weeks and months. Starting with our weekly comedy update – which will list all the regular comedy nights and as many of the one-off comedy events we can find delivered straight to your inbox (or your Facebook wall).

Just ‘like’ the Bootleg Fanpage for updates or if you prefer more direct communication, join our mailing list to be kept in the loop.

We are pretty excited to welcome stacks of new talent to the Perth scene including two Eastern state residents who now call Perth home (Janelle Koenig - from Melbourne and Emma Zammit – from Sydney) and the American Cornelius P. Ganders (comedy brainchild of Werzel Montague).

Plus a few more up ‘n coming local comedians to be added over the next month… oh the suspense…

Now is a great time to check out some of the comedy rooms in Perth as many comedians return from Edinburgh tours and overseas jaunts to spend summer in their hometown in WA.

To see some top local talent we particularly recommend checking out Joel Creasey’s tour, the Barefaced 2011 Story Battle and Shapiro Tuesdays (Perth’s experimental playground for comedians trying out new stuff!).

Happy giggling!

3 NIGHTS ONLY! LAST PERTH SHOWS!

What happens if the girl you think is “The One” turns out not to be? Dumped, depressed and slightly drunk, actor/comedian Zack Adams figures that if you can’t laugh at yourself, you may as well let an audience do it.

A cross between a rock concert and group therapy, LOVE SONGS FOR FUTURE GIRL is a powerful new Comedy Cabaret about love, loss, heartbreak, growing bad ginger beards and everything in between.

Following critical and public success in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney in 2010, the Fringe World season marks the start of a 2011 world tour of LOVE SONGS which includes the 2011 Adelaide Fringe, Melbourne Comedy Festival and the Canadian Fringe Circuit.

“Laugh? I nearly Died…This is a consistently funny, professionally executed show from one of Perth’s most industrious comedians”
-The West Australian

“A one-man musical comedy that tells a hilarious but heart-wrenching tale of Zack’s lost loves in a narrative reminiscent of Nick Hornby’s magnificent rock comedy novel High Fidelity.”

-5AA Radio Adelaide
